Huawei forecasts a 100,000-fold rise in annual AI token use by 2035

Huawei expects AI agents to dominate future token traffic, but the figures in its new roadmap are company forecasts and targets, not measured outcomes.

Huawei forecasts that global annual AI token consumption will grow 100,000-fold by 2035, with agents responsible for more than 90% of the traffic. The company set out those projections in its Intelligent World 2035 report announcement on September 16.

The distinction between a forecast and a result is central to reading these figures. Huawei is describing the future it expects and the infrastructure it believes that future will require; the announcement does not establish that demand has already increased by that amount.

Its accompanying report portal separates the 2026 roadmap, Turning Vision into Action, from the 2025 edition, Explore the Unknown. Shape the Future. The portal places the token-consumption forecast and agent-traffic share under the 2026 edition, while a separate headline estimate of 900 billion agents appears under the 2025 report.

The 2026 roadmap also proposes expanding computing clusters by a factor of 100 and reducing the cost of agent tasks by a factor of 1,000. Those are directions Huawei advocates for infrastructure development, not performance gains demonstrated in this announcement.

For technology buyers and developers, the report is a view of where an infrastructure supplier expects demand to move. It offers a scenario for planning, rather than a guarantee about adoption, computing costs or the eventual scale of agent activity.
