Henri Mann

Life and remembrance

Henri Mann is one of the least documented people among the eleven. Later accounts describe a shopkeeper who lived alone in Beirut, but the published record preserves little of the ordinary life behind his name.

Schulze does not provide a kidnapping date. His death was reported with those of other captives in December 1986, and his body was not recovered. The uncertainty surrounding his disappearance is not an empty space to fill with invention; it is part of what must be remembered.

Kirsten E. Schulze attributes the campaign to the Organization of the Oppressed of the Earth, a group that claimed links with Hizb'allah. Contemporary accounts differ on some dates, occupations, spellings, and the fate of individual victims; those differences are preserved rather than silently resolved.
