Life and remembrance

Isaac Sasson led the Lebanese Jewish community and directed the pharmaceutical department of Khalil Fattal & Fils. His work placed him in the commercial life of Lebanon while his presidency made him responsible for a community under growing pressure.

He was abducted on 31 March 1985 while returning from a business trip through Beirut airport. His death was reported in June 1987. No body was recovered and no burial place is known.

Kirsten E. Schulze attributes the campaign to the Organization of the Oppressed of the Earth, a group that claimed links with Hizb'allah. Contemporary accounts differ on some dates, occupations, spellings, and the fate of individual victims; those differences are preserved rather than silently resolved.
