Ibrahim Beniste

Member of the Beniste family of Beirut

Life and remembrance

Ibrahim Beniste was a son of Yehuda and brother of Youssef. The sparse surviving record too often identifies him only through the violence that also consumed his father and brother; this memorial keeps his own name visible.

Schulze records that Ibrahim was abducted with his father on 15 February 1986 and killed that day. Contemporary reports differ on his age, the form of his first name, and the later handling of his remains.

Primary source: Kirsten E. Schulze, The Jews of Lebanon: Between Coexistence and Conflict, 2nd revised and expanded edition (2009), printed pages 170–175; PDF pages 103–106.

Kirsten E. Schulze attributes the campaign to the Organization of the Oppressed of the Earth, a group that claimed links with Hizb'allah. Contemporary accounts differ on some dates, occupations, spellings, and the fate of individual victims; those differences are preserved rather than silently resolved.
