Yom Kippur
A day for reflection and return, from before sunset to nightfall the following day. Discover its observances in English and Arabic.
A day of return
Yom Kippur falls on the tenth of Tishrei. Prayer, repentance, fasting and rest from work give the day its rhythm.
From Kol Nidrei to Neilah
The evening observances open with Kol Nidrei. Morning prayers, Musaf, the afternoon reading of Jonah and the closing Neilah service carry the congregation through the day.
Responsibility and repair
Mishnah Yoma 8:9 teaches that wrongs against another person require seeking reconciliation with that person.
